 Recntly Apple CEO Tim Cook gave a somewhat rare and wide ranging interview to The Wall Street Journal. Along with touching on issues regarding Apple's buyback plan and the company's surpring stock dip,the CEO also talked in further detail about Android,Motorola's move from Google to lenovo, and large iPone displays among other things.

When asked about investor concerns that apple isn't a growth company anymore ,cook responded by saying that even though Apple's most recent numbers may not be as expressive, the company has experienced intense growth over the past few years which is something he expects continue.

"we went from $65 billion to $100 billion to $150 billion to $170 billion. These are historic.unprecedented numbers.I do not know any companies adding growth at that level,"said Cook."so when you say $14 billion to $15 billion compared to those numbers, it's clearly smaller and smaller percentage,but, to put it in some context, that's like adding three fortune 500 companies in a year.I think that's hard to say that's not a growth company."

When asked about larger iPhone screens, cook said the company is no way against it , but "that until the technology is ready,"Apple do not want to cross that line."Cook has Previously mentioned that large displays can create additional issues with other aspects of the user  experience, one of which being battery life,a point he echoed once again in the recent interview."we want to give our customers what's right in all respects-not just the size but in the resolution, in the clarity,in the contrast, in the reliability,there are many different parameters to measure a display and we care about all those,because we know that's the window to the software",said cook.

Cook also had some choice words on Android in a statement regarding Apple's role in the smartphone business."We have million apps on iOS. We have over half-million that have been optimized for iPad. That half-million compares to 1,000 for android tablets ," said Cook. He continued by saying that is " on of the reason ,although not the only reason, why the experience on Android tablets is so crappy because the app is nothing more than stretched out smartphone app." Another negative thing about Android according to Cook is that it's not a universal experience because of the way companies like samsung and Amazon re-skin the OS in order to customize it. He feels this essentially leaves users with a product created on a fragmented design philosophy.

That’ll soon be changing, however, as both MasterCard and Visa are scheduled to do away with the archaic method starting late next year.

Once the transition takes place in October 2015, credit card customers will instead insert their cards into a slot at a payment kiosk and enter a PIN number. The new cards will contain a microchip that replaces the magnetic strip on today’s cards, a feature that is vulnerable to hackers.

It may be a bit puzzling to hear that it’s taken this long for the US to catch up to the rest of the world, especially when you consider American’s are responsible for about 25 percent of all credit card transactions. But as MasterCard’s Carolyn Balfany recently told the Wall Street Journal, there’s good reason why the US hasn’t yet migrated to the new payment system.

Many markets moved to the new system to combat high levels of fraud while others that struggled with robust telephone networks liked the appeal of being able to process transactions offline. Neither of these were driving factors in America, at least not until now.

As other markets became more secure, criminals moved their operations to the US where credit cards are less secure. The low level of security is one of the main reasons that nearly half of the world’s credit card fraud now takes place in the US.

AMD set to launch budget-minded Radeon R7 250X next month

AMD appears set to launch a new budget-minded graphics card in the Radeon R7 250X, a model that would likely sit snugly between the entry-level R7 250 and the R7 260 based on product name alone. AMD hasn't released anything official just yet but here is what we have heard thus far.

As VideoCardz points out, there are already references of an R7 250X from multiple third-party partners including Sapphire and Asus. The Sapphire card shown below features a dual-slot design with a slightly modified cooling shroud and will require a single 6-pin power connector for power.

Collectively, we’re hearing that the 250X will be powered by the same GPU found on the 250 and will include 640 stream processors, 16 ROPs and 40 TMUs. It’ll be available in 1GB and 2GB configurations with a 128-bit bus and a 4.5GHz memory clock.

These specs suggest the card is little more than a Radeon HD 7770 rebrand.

Diamond Multimedia already has a factory overclocked model on Amazon priced at $99.99 and supposedly clocked at 1050MHz. Interestingly enough, the listing shows the card was first made available for purchase on Amazon on October 28, 2013 and the actual photos are of an R7 250. The 250X also isn’t listed on Diamond’s website. That said, the listing could very well be an error on Amazon’s part.

Sources told the publication that the new R7 250X card is scheduled for launch next month, perhaps around CeBIT.

Edward Snowden’s treasure trove of classified National Security Agency documents has forever changed how the world views privacy. But as everyone got caught up in the ongoing leaks, nobody has publically questioned exactly how Snowden got his hands on the information – until now.

One would be forgiven to think that Snowden used some elaborate hacking software to siphon top secret documents during his time as a contractor for the agency. But truth be told, his methods were much more rudimentary.

According to a senior intelligence official, Snowden used ordinary “web crawler” software typically used to search, index and back up a website. The software ran in the background while he worked, scraping the agency’s systems and ultimately accessing an estimated 1.7 million files. Although it appears as though he did set specific search parameters such as which subjects to search for and how deeply to dig, it should have easily been detected.

Key to Snowden’s success was the fact that he was working for the agency in Hawaii, a location that had not yet been outfitted with the latest security measures.

Had he been at the NSA’s headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland, he almost certainly would have been caught. Agency officials said systems at that location are constantly monitored and accessing / downloading a large volume of data would have been noticed.

Snowden’s behavior did draw attention a few times but officials say he was able to get off the hook by providing legitimate-sounding explanations for his activity.
